Whether you’re having a study session with friends or are just generally being lazy and watching Netflix, there are certain times when all you want is some delicious takeout delivered straight to your door. For those moments of need, I’ve rounded up the best delivery restaurants in Bloomington to make choosing what to eat even easier.
Best Bar Food
Kilroy’s on Kirkwood
Sometimes you’re in the mood to party, and sometimes you just can’t be bothered. Bring Kilroy’s to your home with an order of their buffalo wings or mozzarella sticks. Crack open a beer and you’re good to go.
Yogi’s Bar and Grill
Yogi’s is perfect if you’re craving a good hamburger. Their Big Ten Burger is topped with BBQ, bacon, onion straws, and cheese, and is to-die-for delicious. Yogi’s also has a killer Buffalo Chicken sandwich and a selection of wings you’ll never want to stop eating.
Best Traditional Eats
Butch’s Grillacatessen & Eatzeria
Butch’s Big Grilla sandwiches are a force to be reckoned with. Stuffed with the likes of chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, and French fries, you’ll feel like a champ after managing to eat one of these bad boys. If you’re not feeling a Big Grilla, try one of their delicious breakfast sandwiches or a slice of their Godfather pizza instead.
Best Pizza
Pizza X
A B-town drunchie staple, how could you not love Pizza X? Open daily past midnight, Pizza X is best for those nights when you’re swamped with homework and all you can think about is the fastest way to get pizza into your mouth pronto. Whatever you do, don’t forget the breadsticks (they’re almost better than the pizza—almost).
Mother Bear’s Pizza
Whatever mojo Mother Bear’s puts into their marinara sauce is working, because I could drink that stuff straight up. If you and a friend are craving pizza something fierce, go for The Munchie Madness: a 10 inch pie, breadsticks, and two jumbo brownies, aw yeah.
#SpoonTip: Order their house salad if you’re feeling sad — it has Goldfish on top, which is sure to cheer you up.
Best Sandwiches
The Big Cheeze
That’s right, your favorite grilled cheese food truck delivers. You have to try their delectable Mac Daddy at least once during your IU career (cheddar cheese layered over homemade mac and cheese put into the world’s best sandwich, yaaass).
#SpoonTip: On a cold day, their creamy tomato basil soup is the perfect pairing with any of their sandwiches.
Scholar’s Inn Bakehouse
Scholar’s Inn Bakehouse has some of the best sandwiches around thanks to its homemade bread and fresh ingredients. Another star menu item is their homemade granola, which makes for the perfect snack throughout the week.
#SpoonTip: Each week you can get a $3 hamburger on Burger Wednesday.
Bloomington Sandwich Company
Three words: homemade corned beef. If you’re a Rueben or Corned Beef sandwich fanatic, look no further than the Bloomington Sandwich Company. They have plenty of vegetarian options as well and “small subs” for anyone with a tiny appetite.
Best Ethnic Food
Siam House
Not only is their curry fantastic, but it’s apparently life-saving as well. When talking with some IU students about Siam House, one girl told me that their yellow curry cured her case of the stomach flu. Not sure how accurate this is, but I’d be willing to give it a shot the next time I’m sick.
#SpoonTip: If you’re feeling fancy, order their Hawaiian Fried Rice (it comes in a huge pineapple!).
Falafels
Besides serving the delicious falafels advertised in its name, Falafels has some of the best hummus in B-town. If you’re normally a falafels or gyro type of person, give their Shukshooka a try instead (in case you’ve never heard of Shukshooka, here’s what it is).
#SpoonTip: The homemade gelato at Falafels is also incredible, so make sure you get a scoop for dessert.
The Laughing Planet Café
The Laughing Planet Café, aka the burrito capital of Bloomington, serves up locally-sourced food that is sure to satisfy any Mexican food craving.
#SpoonTip: Try the Backyard BBQ burrito as a burrito bowl, and don’t skimp out on the Dijon mustard. Trust me, they put it on top for a reason.
Best Dessert
The Chocolate Moose
The Chocolate Moose is known as one of the best ice cream spots in town for good reason. Even their most basic flavors like homemade vanilla and chocolate are unbelievably good, and you can order any style of ice cream treat you desire. The Chocolate Moose has Food Truck Fridays every week, so you can get your favorite ice cream and food truck goodies all in one place.
Baked!
In addition to their build-your-own cookies (with 20,000+ types, by the way), Baked! is famous for its sludge bars. Sludge bars are the leftover bits of cookie dough that don’t get made into real cookies and are then all tossed together to make the world’s best cookie bars.
#SpoonTip: Present you Monroe County library card when you purchase your goodies for a 15% discount.
