Sonic has been around for over 70 years and continues to evolve to fit its customers’ needs while remaining delicious and budget-friendly. There’s no doubt that the chain’s classics are still as delicious as ever and when paired with a refreshing slush or blast, the classics like the Sonic Cheeseburger and the Chili Cheese Coney are perfect for all year round. As someone who’s been going to Sonic since I was born, the new menu items are mouthwatering and tasteful but could never replace the Sonic classics. I have compiled a list of the top 10 best menu items at Sonic — most being my parents’ favorites before they were mine. It’s safe to say the love of Sonic runs in the family.

The Sonic Cheeseburger

The classic Sonic cheeseburger is one of the best fast food cheeseburgers I’ve ever had with its juicy pickles and cooked-to-perfection patty. The perfect way to order is with no onions, extra pickles, and mustard. The variety of ketchup, mayo, and mustard leaves you wanting more. In my mind, it’s a classic, and no other burger tops it.

Sonic Blast made with M&M's Chocolate Candies

Sonic has offered many flavors of blasts throughout the years but the M&M’s blast with whipped topping is a classic treat that will forever be one of the best items at Sonic. The blast consists of vanilla ice cream with mini M&M’s mixed in. Growing up, my mom would get this blast every time we got ice cream at Sonic and shortly it became one of my favorites. The creamy ice cream pairs perfectly with the chocolatey goodness of the candy.

Cherry Limeade

A cherry limeade is great for any time of the year but it’s even sweeter when it’s hot outside. I’ll be honest, this wasn’t my favorite drink before, but as I drank my mom’s drinks more and more, I fell in love with the sweet tang. Now it reminds me of her any time I get it. The sweetness of the cherry and the tang of the lime are a perfect combination to refresh your whole body.

Chili Cheese Coney

This item is one I’ve been ordering for years. Whether you get the footlong or the regular, you’re in for a treat. This classic coney features freshly made chili and shredded cheese that melt together to make a deliciously creamy sauce. It’s a great snack for any time of the day or a delicious meal paired with the best tots.

Blue Raspberry Slush with Nerds

Sonic is known for its iconic slushes with a variety of flavors to choose from like cherry, grape, and blue coconut. Within the last decade, they have offered candy add-ins that make the slushes a bit sweeter giving their well-known slushes a bit of twist. The best one is the Blue Raspberry Slush with Nerds — the candy adds an immediate crunchy tang to the slush and an everlasting sweetness that lasts throughout the whole slush.

Junior Breakfast Burritos

During my freshman year of college, I worked across the street from a Sonic location and when I didn’t want to spend much, I’d order Sonic’s Junior Breakfast burritos. These burritos are a cheaper breakfast option at $2.69 with just as much flavor as the rest. The options are between a Jr. Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Burrito or a Jr. Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Burrito so whether you’re a bacon lover or a hater, there is a delicious choice waiting for you. The trick is to get a Jr. Breakfast Burrito, my favorite is the sausage, and then order a small French Vanilla Cold Brew Iced Coffee. The total was always $5.68.

Chocolate and Banana Shake

If you’re a chocolate-covered banana fan, this is the best treat for you. This is a bit of a hack, order a chocolate shake and ask for bananas to be added, and then you are ready for a perfect summer break. The shake is a sweetness overload that will cool you down no matter what. I know I may be weird for this pick but just try it! It reminds me of walking through Disney’s Animal Kingdom all gross and sweaty after a long day in the sun and coming upon a cart that sells frozen chocolate-covered bananas.

Pickle Fries

These pickle fries are an amazing fried pickle twist, perfect for any fried pickle lover. The pickle fries are fried to golden perfection and paired with a tasty ranch dressing. The twist comes in with the shape, they’re not chips like in most places but shaped like actual fries. The ranch is the perfect dipping sauce, and as a ranch connoisseur, there are only a few ranches that actually taste good with fried pickles and Sonic’s ranch tops it.

Orange Cloudsicle Slush Float

Are you an orange creamsicle lover? If so, this slush needs to be added to your summer list. It has the perfect ratio of classic orange slush to creamy vanilla ice cream making it melt in your mouth. With the added orange popping bubbles, it’s a perfect summer treat. I remember eating orange creamsicles with my granny at her house when I was younger, as the ice cream melts, this drink lets me reminisce on the good times.

This new flavor is a cheesecake lover’s dream. The Oreo Big Scoop Cheesecake has cheesecake soft serve mixed with Oreo pieces and topped with a big scoop of Oreo cheesecake. The sundae is perfect for those who love cheesecake and love an ice cream twist.
