What’s better than a classic grilled cheese and tomato soup combo from your mom? A rainbow grilled cheese. This epic Instagram sensation inspired us to try it out and show you how you can make one too. The premise is simple: melt the cheese, add the food coloring, and make the magic happen with that final gratifying cheese pull. We’d highly suggest having your camera ready.
Rainbow Grilled Cheese

- 1 cup cheese (shredded)
 - 1 tablespoon lavender
 - 1 tablespoon sundried tomatoes
 - 1 tablespoon basil
 - 1 tablespoon butter
 - Food coloring (assorted colors)
 - White bread

Step 1
Start by separating the cheese into four bowls (1/4 cup in each bowl).

Add food coloring and condiments to each bowl and combine to achieve desired color (basil + green food coloring, lavender + purple food coloring, sundried tomatoes + red food coloring).

Butter both slices of bread on one side, and toast one slice in a pan over medium heat.

Step 4
Layer the 1/4 cup of white cheese, then arrange colors in whatever pattern you desire.

Once cheese is starting to melt, add the second slice of bread and flip. Cook until golden, about 2 minutes.
