McDonalds recently added new signature crafted burgers to their menu: the maple bacon dijon burger, the sweet BBQ bacon burger, and the pico guacamole burger. While these burgers are better than the usual McDonalds patty, they do come at a slightly higher price point. While the pico guacamole burger comes up at $6.69, I found a quick and easy way to make this flavorful burger at home at just about $5 per burger.
For this recipe I pulled from many different recipes, like this pico recipe, this guacamole recipe, and this burger recipe.
Homemade Pico Guacamole Burger
- Prep Time:30 mins
- Cook Time:20 mins
- Total Time:50 mins
- Servings:4
- Medium
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tomatoes
- 2 avocados
- 1/2 yellow onion
- 1/4 cup dried cilantro
- 1 block yellow cheddar cheese
- 1 head iceberg lettuce
- Buttermilk ranch
- 4 sesame buns
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 container lime juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Ingredients
-
Step 1
First we'll get started with the pico de gallo. Cut up your tomatoes and onion into even pieces. Set aside about 1/4 of the tomato for later and put the rest in a medium bowl. Add 2 tablespoons lime juice and about 3/4 of a teaspoon of dried cilantro. Mix thoroughly and set aside.
#SpoonTip: Dried cilantro is a tad stronger than fresh cilantro, so it's best to go easy here if you're not a fan of cilantro. -
Step 2
Next we'll get into the guacamole. Cut both avocados in half and remove the pit with a spoon. Spoon each avocado half into a bowl and mash them up real good, resulting in a weird green mess like this.
-
Step 3
Take the tomato we set aside earlier and add it to the green avocado mush, and add 1 teaspoon of lime juice. Mix well.
#SpoonTip: add some extra flavor to your guacamole with a pinch or two of cilantro. -
Step 4
Now we're at the fun part: the burger. Combine the ground beef, olive oil, garlic powder, and salt and pepper together in a large bowl and mix it all up. Form into 4 patties.
-
Step 5
Coat the bottom of a large frying pan with olive oil and place your patties in it. Cook on medium heat for around 5 minutes per side for a medium patty with a light pink center.
-
Step 6
Remove your patties from the pan and set to the side. Take a sesame bun and coat the bottom with about a teaspoon of buttermilk ranch, depending on your tastes you can add more or less here. Place the burger on top of the ranch, and add a slice of white cheddar cheese on top of the burger. Next is a piece of iceberg lettuce, and then to the tricky parts.
Take a spoonful of pico de gallo and gently place on top of the lettuce. Then get a spoonful of guacamole and spread on top of the pico. Lastly, place the top bun and you're ready to eat!
Mess up your first time?
No worries, by the time I completed this recipe I ended up with only one patty. #RIP to the other three. Good luck!
