Picture this: it’s a crisp 95 degrees and humid on a hot summer's day. The sun is shining, as is your face, because it’s impossible to go outside without sweating. Nothing is as refreshing as a nice, cold glass of tart lemonade… or a Pink Lemonade Kit Kat?

In May, Hershey sampled several new products at the National Confectioners Association’s 2024 Sweets & Snacks Expo – including the Reese’s Caramel Big Cup which garnered national attention following its Super Bowl ad. In addition to Hershey’s Crunchy Waffle Cone Bars and Sparkling Pineapple Mango Seltzer Ice Breakers Mints, Hershey announced that Pink Lemonade (and a classic Vanilla) would be joining the massive line-up of Kit Kat flavors come summertime.

Kit Kats are my all time favorite candy. In 2022, I sampled the Blueberry Muffin Kit Kat, which (much to my surprise) immediately became my favorite flavor after the classic milk chocolate. While my allegiance lies in the chocolate variations (Dark Chocolate Minis have my heart), I love coming across a Green Tea Kit Kat in the wild, and I’m not opposed to Pumpkin Pie during the autumn season. Let’s be real: I’ll never turn down a Kit Kat, and TBH, I had yet to try a flavor I didn’t like…until now.

The new Pink Lemonade Kit Kat is described as “classic, crisp wafers wrapped in a pink lemonade flavored creme.” Classic Kit Kat shape? Check. Crisp wafers? You got ‘em. Semi-unsettling shade of Pepto Bismol pink? Yep. Pink Lemonade flavored creme? This is where it gets a little dicey.

Upon first bite, I had immediate flashbacks to the sandpaper-y strawberry sugar wafers that I feel only exist at specialty ice cream shops. Beyond the initial punch of nostalgia and a crispier wafer inside the Kit Kat, I tasted a very creamy coating that was very much like white chocolate — flavorless aside from being sweet — with a hint of strawberry. The aftertaste is where I got a touch of the tartness you’d hope for with lemonade, but it tasted more like lemon creme than a refreshing glass of pink lemonade.

Unfortunately, the real kicker is that I tapped out after one wafer stick. Whereas I can usually crush all four wafers in a king-sized Kit Kat like nobody’s business, I was over Pink Lemonade by bite three. While it was a fun summer treat to try, I’ll stick to my Dark Chocolate Kit Kats and a glass of Pink Lemonade on the side.
