Food is important to us Golden Bears — I mean, we have over 11 on- and off-campus dining options. But having this many options means you can never decide what to get. Whether you’re running late, getting out of class, or simply can’t make a decision, take this quiz to find out where you should stuff your face next on the Berkeley campus.
The answer is:
Golden Bear Café (GBC)
You're in the mood for something classic, quick, and relatively cheap (@mealpoints?). GBC is like your best friend — always there for you (except the weekends — slightly salty about that). You could probably go there for every meal because let's be honest, GBC is an oldie but a goodie. Who would mess with that?
The answer is:
The Vietnamese place to replace Ramona's Café
You're ready for a change — you're sick of the same old GBC burritos and you wouldn't even consider touching dining hall food. You need some quality, new food to spice up your day. Not much has been revealed about this new eatery, but since the owner and chef is a former Berkeley student (and owner of The Slanted Door in SF), we know to expect great things.
The answer is:
(Pat) Brown's Café
Health nut? More like environmentally friendly, super-awesome foodie. Brown's is literally to die for with its creative and delicious menu. You can munch on your sweet potato fries and grass-fed burger while knowing that everything is locally grown. It is a bit of a trek down to West Side, but trust us — it's worth it.
The answer is:
Dining hall
You're either a freshman or you're desperate for all the food in the world — so much so that you would walk a few blocks in order to enjoy these buffet-style cafeterias. You're just in one of those moods where you feel like eating everything, and you know you're definitely gonna get your money's worth at Crossroads, Café 3, CKC, or Foothill. #SpoonTip: Dining Halls are the best places to get creative with your food (i.e. Dining Hall Hacks).
The answer is:
Nearby café
Whether it's Strada, FSM, Qualcomm, or Milano, you're looking for a place to sit and get some work done while sipping on decent coffee. Hungry but not famished? Cafés are perfect with their adorable snacks in glass displays — just the right serving size to satisfy your tummy. Cafés are a nice place to relax, especially when you're surrounded by the fragrant aroma of coffee.
The answer is:
Off-campus food
You have standards, and sorry, but on-campus options just aren't working for you. You'll probably be stopping by Chipotle, Asian Ghetto, or even CREAM (probs for those late night drunchies). You're in the mood for ACTUAL food, and damn it — you're gonna treat yo' self.
The answer is:
Yali's Café
Located in Stanley Hall, Yali's is one of UC Berkeley's best kept secrets. With its delicious and inventive caffeinated drinks paired with elevated salads and sandwiches, there's no way you could go wrong with Yali's. This café is a hidden gem on campus, and those who make the trek up to Hearst Mining Circle definitely find it to be worth the hike.
